Here's What People Have Been Saying About Our NEW Book "Wiresmithing - the New Look of Wire Art"
Our book reviewers have until Friday October 24th to submit their view of the book. We are patiently waiting to see what they have to say...I just can't wait. please stop back on Monday October 27th to see what they have to say.
This is a book that has been created from a labor of love which
shines
through. Jim has combined the art of wire wrapping along with the
technique
of silversmithing and has done so with simple straight forward
guidance and
illustrations from start to finish. I can't for the life of me
understand
why combining the two methods hadn't been attempted before now, so
hats off
to him for bringing them both together and sharing.
The book covers project with rings, bracelets, bangles and pendants
in a
very simple and easy way for anyone to understand and feel that they
can
pick up the tools and get started with confidence. Jim's sense of
humor
doesn't go amiss either. Everything that you would need and want
for these
projects are explained with great detail and illustration.
I love this book and can't recommend it enough to anyone interested
in this
style of work.

In general, the writing is very clear, the
language used is simple and easy to understand. It makes it possible
for someone who has never done any metalsmithing to grasp all of the
concepts and terms. There is also a touch of humor that makes it
possible to read as if you were talking with a friend or an actual
instructor.
The helpful hints are indeed very helpful and provide some of that
knowledge that you get with practice, it is like having a mentor
guiding you with all that insight. It is a very thorough book that I
think even beginner wire wrappers can benefit from. It's not a book
full of projects, it's a book full of possibilities, it shows you
all the different paths you can take and the building steps to be
able to follow and explore on your own, so that you can come up with
infinite variations.

Pepper Mentz, Wiresmith
Wiresmithing is a book that will become the true text manual for serious wire jewelery makers. The thing that I like the most from my experience with wire jewellery, is that so much less wire is used to create these stylish pieces. Living in a country that does not have natural silver, we pay premium prices for wire, and this wiresmithing technique is a cost saving without sacrificing the end look of a piece. In fact, they look better!
One thing we do have in South Africa, is an abundance of attractive stones, and those who polish them are always seeking ways of displaying their finished pieces in jewellery. This method is something that can be done by anyone with a little practice, and without having to spend a lot of time and money on learning traditional silversmithing skills! How nice to be able to start with a rough piece of rock, and take it all the way to a finished piece of jewellery. I am sure that lapidary artists world wide will flock to buy this book once they realise they can do it all themselves.
The opening section on tools introduces you to the extra items you need to add to your toolbox, with very clear illustrations on their use. Then on to the basic projects!
The illustrated steps for each piece are easy to follow, and the repetition is great so you do not have to keep paging back to find that segment..........where is it??
Each section leads you eagerly into the next, and you are never disappointed with what is on offer! These designs are exciting and timeless, and could be worn by any age, either sex!
Once again Jim ends with a great section on design, in which he points out that even those who consider themselves mere "doodlers" can expand their sketches into new and unique jewelery pieces. Thank you Jim, for the opportunity to review this book , and thank you again for having the vision to call Wiresmithing ART!
